Arboviral Diseases

Within recent years, the Caribbean region has had to respond to a series of mosquito-borne diseases including Chikungunya, Dengue and Zika, that affected large numbers of the Caribbean population.  Zika is unique in that the disease can be sexually transmitted, thus overlapping with some of PSI’s other SRH campaigns in the Caribbean and Central America.  PSI, through its Central America counterpart, Pan American Social Marketing Organization (PASMO), developed a communications campaign to combat Zika that was expanded to eight countries in the Caribbean region.  The campaign encourages the population to take specific steps, including eliminating stagnant water and applying repellent, to prevent the transmission of Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya.
